About Me
My name is Riley Robinson. I am 20 years old and attend NAC majoring in engineering. I am the president of the engineering club at Northampton and on the underwater robotics team at Lehigh. I imagine, engineer and build unnecessary projects in my free time. I went to technical school for three years studying electrical technology. I am eco-conscious; this is seen in my recycled theme. I watch a lot of YouTube, my favorite creators are Stuff Made Here, Zach Star and James Burton.
I own two 3d printers that I paid nothing for, my friend gave me one, and my boss gave me the other as an end of summer bonus :) I love using solid works to model something and then print it out, its amazing.
Bike Life
I live my life on two wheels, I love biking. Whether it's BMX, mountain biking, or motorcycling, I enjoy it all. It's counterintuitive how much stability can come from just two (or one) contact points and some speed.
Mechanically Gorgeous
This video is a steam powered boat which I had the privilege to ride in. Every year a local club gets together with their steam steampunk boats and take to the lake. There are about six of them, they all have unique vessels with unique whistles. I live very close to this lake and the strange whistles are what made their presence known. The boat is powered by adding wood to the furnace, boiling water and turning a turbine.
I recently purchased a mechanical watch, more specifically, a skeleton watch. This watch is special because you can see most of the components in action in real time. Some of these gears have microscopic teeth, yet keep nearly perfect time. One winding of the watch will last for about three days. It keeps time very well, only losing a minute or two every few weeks. If I hold the watch to my ear, I can hear the click of the escapement mechanism. This serves the same purpose as a pendulum on a grandfather clock. It ticks six times per second or half a million times per day.
